Volunteers

Volunteering at Skye Primary School

At Skye Primary School, volunteers are an integral part of our school community, contributing to a supportive, engaging, and enriching learning environment for our students. We greatly value the time, skills, and enthusiasm that volunteers bring to our school.

Supporting Literacy & Learning

A particular focus for our volunteers is assisting with our morning Literacy Block, where they provide valuable support in reading, writing, and language development. Volunteers help by:

  • Listening to students read and providing encouragement.
  • Supporting small group activities under teacher guidance.
  • Assisting with writing tasks and literacy-based discussions.

Volunteer Training & Getting Involved

To ensure that all volunteers feel confident and prepared, we offer volunteer training once a term. This training provides:

  • An overview of classroom routines and expectations.
  • Guidance on how to effectively support student learning.
  • Important information on child safety and school policies.

We are always open to welcoming additional volunteers to our school! Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, or community member, your involvement makes a meaningful difference.

This relaxed, welcoming environment allows parents, carers, and students to begin the day with quiet reading time while fostering a love for literature. Families are also encouraged to borrow books, helping to build a culture of reading at home.

Whether it’s enjoying a favourite story, exploring new books, or simply spending a peaceful moment together, Library Open Mornings are a wonderful way to connect and cultivate a love for reading.
We look forward to seeing you there!
