Skye Primary School
Following advice from the Victorian Government on Monday 20th July, Skye Primary School will be moving to remote and flexible learning from Term 3.
This is a step all Victorian government schools are taking to help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). This means that all students who can learn at home must learn from home. This is a very clear directive from the Victorian Government based on the advice of the Chief Health Officer.
We will continue to offer limited on-site learning for those students who need to access this, including for students on days when they are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made. We will provide further information about this shortly.
The Department’s latest advice on coronavirus can be found at https://www.education.vic.gov.au/coronavirus
It is important that we work together and support each other during this challenging time. We will be in touch with staff and parents and carers shortly with further details of what remote and flexible learning will look like at our school.
In the meantime, you might find it useful to look at the Department’s Learning from Home website. It provides resources and guidance for teachers and parents and carers. https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/department/Pages/learningfromhome.aspx
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Skye Primary School’s website. We hope you find the information within these pages informative, and that you gain a sense of the wonderful learning community we have at Skye Primary School.
At Skye PS, we pride ourselves on providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment that relies on positive and caring relationships for all. Our dedicated staff are committed to delivering programs that foster academic excellence, student wellbeing and engagement. We work collaboratively to engage in professional learning, continually building on our knowledge and skills to ensure that best practice is evident in every classroom.
The School Values – Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Relationships – underpin who we are as a community. They provide students with a framework to develop core principles that empower them to make positive contributions to both their school and wider communities. A consistent approach to establishing routines and protocols that focus on school wide positive behaviours, assists us in providing calm and orderly learning spaces. Skye PS has been identified as a lead school in the Victorian state-wide rollout of the ‘Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Program’.
Our aim is for students to graduate from Skye PS as confident, independent thinkers and problem-solvers who are equipped to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Our academic program incorporates explicit and direct instruction to support the design and delivery of effective lessons in Literacy and Numeracy. We use an Inquiry-based approach across other curriculum areas to enhance the skills and attitudes that assist our students in becoming life-long learners. We offer a wide range of engaging specialist and extra-curricular programs that, while supporting the development of academic knowledge and skills, focus heavily on the wellbeing and general capabilities of our students.
2020 sees the beginning of an exciting building project at Skye PS commencing with the building of our brand new gymnasium, complete with a competition grade basketball court, scheduled to start in August. Our administration block and library will be relocating to create a whole new front of school, alongside our new parent carpark. The following phases will see the redesign of some of our older classroom spaces and the building of a new Arts/STEM centre. While it is an exciting venture, we have been working very closely with the design team to ensure that our school retains the semi-rural community feel that makes our school unique. We are very lucky to have a number of beautiful open spaces for our children to enjoy their play time.
At Skye PS we know that building strong family partnerships that link home and school is paramount to the development and success of our students. Parents and families are welcomed in our community and we strongly encourage them to be actively involved in all aspects of their child’s education. We offer a number of events throughout the year where we can come together to share in and celebrate learning at our school.
The best way to get a feel for our school it is to see it for yourself. We warmly encourage you to attend one of our school tours or contact the office to arrange a personal appointment.
I look forward to the opportunity of meeting you and sharing in your child’s education.

Our vibrant and active Prep Learning Area makes for the perfect learning environment for your child’s first year at primary school.
Our school promotes strong, caring and positive relationships, priding ourselves in providing a safe, supportive and inclusive school environment for all students. We focus on building a positive school climate where our prep students are involved in early learning that promotes development of self-management, awareness, empathy, resilience, pride in self and positive relationship skills.
We encourage and welcome strong parent and family partnerships between home and school that create a support network for each individual student’s learning, wellbeing and engagement.
Separate Prep Playground – we also have a secure prep-student-only outdoor playground / learning area that supports our new preps with active hands-on learning activities, and also in their early transition to primary school in a safe and secure play area. The prep playground includes a prep climbing frame and slide, a sandpit, a pirate ship, and surrounding gardens that all of our preps help to plant out and maintain together as a community.

Welcome to Pets Club
We have a ‘selection’ of fabulous pets at Skye Primary School! Many of these pets are a part of our science program, and students from P – 6 can enjoy interacting with our ‘pets’ during Pets Club. Many students also enjoy the leadership responsibility of caring for our hens at Chook Palace – feeding the hens daily, providing water, clearing and tiding the hen house and of course collecting eggs.
