Skye Primary School

Principal’s Welcome

Our students are at the heart of everything we do!

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website. We hope you find the information within these pages informative, and that you gain a sense of the wonderful learning community we have at Skye Primary School.

At Skye PS, we pride ourselves on providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment that relies on positive and caring relationships for all. Our dedicated staff are committed to delivering programs that foster academic excellence and learner agency with an emphasis on student wellbeing and engagement. We work collaboratively to engage in professional learning, continually building on our knowledge and skills to ensure that best practice is evident in every classroom.

We aim for students to graduate from Skye PS as confident, independent thinkers and problem-solvers who are equipped to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Our academic program incorporates explicit and direct instruction to support the design and delivery of effective lessons in Literacy and Numeracy. We use an Inquiry-based approach across other curriculum areas to enhance the skills and attitudes that assist our students in becoming life-long learners. We offer a wide range of engaging specialist and extra-curricular programs that, while supporting the development of academic knowledge and skills, focus heavily on the wellbeing and general capabilities of our students.

The School Values – Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Relationships – underpin who we are as a community. They provide students with a framework to develop core principles that empower them to make positive contributions to both their school and wider communities. A consistent approach to establishing routines and protocols that focus on school wide positive behaviours, assists us in providing calm and orderly learning spaces.

Our exciting building project was completed at the end of 2022. Our brand-new administration office, gymnasium / basketball stadium, music room and beautiful new library are open and being enjoyed by the Skye community. A new STEAM centre now takes pride of place in the old library space. Our architects have worked with us to ensure that our school retains the semi-rural community feel that makes us unique. We are very lucky to have a number of beautiful open spaces for our children to enjoy their play and outdoor learning time.

At Skye PS we know that building strong family partnerships that link home and school is paramount to the development and success of our students. Parents and families are welcomed in our community and we strongly encourage them to be actively involved in all aspects of their child’s education. We offer a number of events throughout the year where we can come together to share in and celebrate learning at our school.

The best way to get a feel for our school it is to see it for yourself. We warmly encourage you to attend one of our school tours or contact the office to arrange a personal appointment. I look forward to the opportunity of meeting you and sharing in your child’s education.

A School with a Semi-Rural Feel

Skye Primary School offers our community a school with a strong community ‘semi-rural feel’ to your child’s primary schooling years.

Vibrant and Active Prep Learning Area

Our vibrant and active Prep Learning Area makes for the perfect learning environment for your child’s first year at primary school.

Our school promotes strong, caring and positive relationships, priding ourselves in providing a safe, supportive and inclusive school environment for all students. We focus on building a positive school climate where our prep students are involved in early learning that promotes development of self-management, awareness, empathy, resilience, pride in self and positive relationship skills.

We encourage and welcome strong parent and family partnerships between home and school that create a support network for each individual student’s learning, wellbeing and engagement.

Separate Prep Playground – we also have a secure prep-student-only outdoor playground / learning area that supports our new preps with active hands-on learning activities, and also in their early transition to primary school in a safe and secure play area. The prep playground includes a prep climbing frame and slide, a sandpit, a pirate ship, and surrounding gardens that all of our preps help to plant out and maintain together as a community.

Modern Teaching and Learning Spaces

Skye Primary School has excellent learning and teaching spaces within our school that allow for high level learning. We are a caring, friendly and welcoming school that encourages and supports the growth of each and every child.

Our learning environments provide a safe and secure environment for every child, and dynamic learning and teaching that promotes high level literacy and numeracy skills, critical thinking, creativity and individuality within a balanced and comprehensive curriculum. Catering for each and every child’s social, emotional and academic learning.

Our teachers are versatile in their use of learning spaces to support student learning. Classrooms are equipped with digital learning resources and students and teachers utilise these resources across all curriculum areas including through literacy, numeracy and inquiry learning.

Large Open Playground Spaces

We boast generous and spacious outdoor areas – with an abundance of space for our students to enjoy healthy relationships with each other and play.
